Mattawa
Come and spend
some time in Ontario's Near North Vacation center. Situated on Highway
17, 400kms north of Toronto, 300kms W of Ottawa, 63km E of North
Bay, Mattawa has something for everyone in every season.
"Mattawa"
means the meeting of two rivers. The Ottawa river and the Mattawa
river meet together at the center of town and so opens up a full
opportunity of leisure pursuits.
Summer means
fishing, boating, canoeing, jet skiing, swimming, golfing, hiking
or just enjoying the beautiful scenery that surrounds the area,
especially in the local provincial parks.
Winter is a time
for ice fishing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing at Mt Antoine, cross
country skiing, snow walking and dog sledding.
Hunting and ATV trails bring many enthusiasts to the Mattawa area
during spring and fall. The hundreds of colors of the Laurentian
Mountains and surrounding area is a real spectacular sight to see,
especially whilst golfing.
Other local interests include the Mattawa Museum, Algonquin and
Samuel de Champlain Provincial Parks, Eau Clare Gorge, an art gallery
of Clermont Duval - Mattawa's own internationally known artist and
Mattawa's Arena for skating, ball games and tournaments.
